Little Shop Of Horrors Is Being Rebooted By A Legendary Horror-Comedy Director

16-03-2024

We're bringing the horror/comedy back. In recent years, Hollywood has been trying to create a mainstream horror franchise. This usually involves uninspired attempts like Disney's remake of "Haunted mansion", and most recently the announcement that "The Blob" will be given another chance. The horror legends Joe Dante & Roger Corman have teamed up this time to remake the 1960 classic film, "The Little Shop of Horrors." This is a remake that even the most anti-remake fans would admit to being a success.
Deadline reports the exciting news, which would send a chill down anyone's spine who has seen Universal's "Dark Universe", a failed gambit, fail spectacularly. That is, unless the filmmakers on the project were involved. Dante, best known as the director of "Gremlins," the film with the little creatures that became the unofficial Letterboxd logo, will be directing the reboot. He'll work from a screenplay by Charles S. Haas (Gremlins 2 : The New Batch). Corman will continue to produce the film, which was directed by Corman and became a cult classic

Little Shop of Horrors is given a fresh lease of life

The two actors had no idea how far their low-budget comedy about plants that love human blood would take them. This genre film eventually led to a musical off-Broadway, which, in turn, lead to the 1986 remake directed by Frank Oz, composed by Alan Menken. Over 60 years later, and nearly four decades since the last film, "The Little Shop of Horrors", is back for another installment.
It's no secret that the ability to create a true farce is becoming a rare skill. (Although it should be noted that previous movies were tamed in order to attract a wider audience.) But that's likely why Roger Corman, who created this original film along with horror legends like Joe Dante and Charles S. Haas has put his name to this latest effort. The inclusion of Charles S. Haas is the biggest surprise, considering that he hadn't written a script in over 30 years.

This new remake of "The Little Shop of Horrors", however, has not yet been given a release date. Stay tuned to /Film as more information becomes available.
