One Bones Set Was Borrowed From A Short-Lived Kelsey Grammer Sitcom

04 -03-2024

What do Kelsey Grammer and the "Frasier", "Cheers," "Bones," cast members have in common? The shared set. A shared set. Both shows are Fox productions. The network was able to reuse a set built for Grammer’s show, but then used for an episode in the fourth season of "Bones".

This episode is called "Man in the Outhouse," the fourth episode of season 4 of "Bones", which was broadcast in 2008. Entertainment Weekly revealed that the television set we saw in "Busted by Bill," was the exact same set used by Grammer, his co-star Patricia Heaton of "Everybody Loves Raymond", on "Back to You." This is not a coincidence, as the show ended its one-season run in 2008, which was very short. Fox already had an old TV that they could use.

If you need to be reminded, this episode picks up when a body partially decomposed is discovered in an outhouse. The body of the "Busted By Bill" host is revealed to be that person. Brennan (Zoey Dechanel), and Booth (David Boreanaz), must find the murderer from among a pool of many suspects. This includes some who have been humiliated in the reality show. Sweets and Bones watches episodes to find suspects that fit the profile of a revenge murderer, while Booth tries to understand Brennan’s love life.
Bones' gain was Back to You’s loss

The sitcom "Back to You" aired only for one season. It was about the two co-anchors who worked for a Pittsburgh-based news show. They had chemistry on screen, but they fought constantly offscreen. The show was harmed by a number of factors. One of the reasons it suffered was because it got caught in 2007's writer strike, which threw a wrench into production. The strike affected many other shows at the time.

The show was in for a tough road ahead. Fox cancelled the show in just one season because the ratings were not what the network wanted. It was so bad that even though co-creator Christopher Lloyd was ready to launch his massively successful "Modern Family" (which is not the Christopher Lloyd of the "Back to the Future films), he refused to take it to Fox.

Lloyd revealed in a 2010 interview that ABC, CBS and NBC all wanted to produce the show. Lloyd stated that it was "certainly gratifying" to have the show pursued by ABC, CBS and NBC. After a previous bad experience, we had no interest in working with Fox. He was referring to "Back to You." Lloyd's assessment of the Network was also not very kind.
It's a bad place for comedy writers. "It's a cruel place for a comedy writer."

It was over. Fox has so many shows, it's not worth wasting anything. Hart Hanson used the television set that Grammer and Heaton once owned, and Brennan and Booth were able to use it.

Right now, "Bones", a new series from Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, is available to stream.
