The Strangers: Chapter 1 Trailer Slashes Up A New Horror Trilogy

02 -03-2024

You may remember "The Strangers". The Strangers are back in a trilogy. The Strangers, a 2008 horror film that was a huge success, features a couple who are targeted by three masked assailants. The film was written and directed by Bryan Bertino. It made excellent use of sound effects and gradually building up dread in order to create an unforgettable scary movie. The Strangers: Prey At Night, a 2018 sequel followed the same formula as the original but with a different atmosphere (it was more like a traditional slasher film than the previous one).

Renny, who directed "Deep Blue Sea" and "Cliffhanger," is now helming a new trilogy. The three films will be released in one calendar year. The first film is "The Strangers Chapter 1." But don't refer to it as a remake. It's a new series of movies set within the continuity of original film. It's not. You got it? Good. Watch the "The Strangers Chapter 1 Trailer" now.

Do not talk to strangers

Madelaine, Froy, Gabriel, Ema, and Froy Guitierrez star in "The Strangers Chapter 1". The film is about a couple who are stranded in a cabin after their car breaks in a small, creepy town. Madelaine Petsch, and Froy Gutierrez. Three masked strangers terrorize them with seemingly no reason and no mercy in the first chapter of THE STRANGERS, a new horror film series.

Harlin said to EW that "When I was presented with this incredible opportunity, not only did it allow me to do a new film but also a three-part trilogy, based on an original movie, I felt like it was a great opportunity." Harlin emphasizes that this isn't a remake, or reboot. Not so fast.

We at /Film were told by the filmmaker who had shot the three films in succession that the film was a remake. He said: "The opportunity is a chance of a life time to be able take a movie that you love, to remake it and answer those questions, such as, "Why?" The Strangers: Who Were They? What was their motive? "Is it random or are there any reasons behind the crime?

Is this remake? We'll have to wait and see.

This is the part where Harlin asks "Who are these Strangers?" What did they do? This gives me pause. The original film is so powerful because we don't really know who or why the killers in the masks are. Three random people show up and begin slicing through bodies, for seemingly no reason. When asked why, they simply reply: "Because I was home." It's pretty scary. This trailer recreates that exact moment, suggesting... remake. The trailer has a tagline saying that the film shows us how "The Strangers become the Strangers." This suggests... a sequel? What do you think? All of it is a bit muddled. Overall, this trailer is pretty decent. We hope that the rest of the trilogy is as good.

The Strangers Chapter 1 scares the audience on May 17th, 2024.
