Paddington 2 Director Paul King Hasn't Seen The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent [Exclusive]

01-03-2024

Paul King, the director of "Wonka," had already achieved great success in his critically acclaimed Paddington movies. The films "Paddington 2", based on the popular children's book series, are filled with family-friendly humor, and have a big heart that spreads kindness to the world. Rotten Tomatoes has rated "Paddington", a beloved children's book, at 97%. "Paddington 2", however, is currently ranked at 99%. This love of the delightful sequel became so strong that it influenced an unexpected project, a Nicolas Cage film.

In "The Unbearable Weigh of Massive talent", the star of "Face/Off" (as well as "Con-Air") plays an over-the-top version of him, hired by wealthy Javi Gutierrez's fan Pedro Pascal to attend his birthday. Cage's gig becomes a covert CIA operation when he is asked to assist the agency in determining whether the man has kidnapped a woman. Nicolas Cage is playing himself and trying to accomplish a covert mission while he deals with uncertainty about whether the fan in question is an undercover criminal. This situation is made even more complex by the fact that the fan in question is an avid Nicolas Cage supporter. The two form a great friendship.

Javi's favorite movie of all-time, "Paddington 2", is shown to deepen their friendship. Cage isn't convinced, so he decides to watch the film and change his mind. Paul King might have clapped his hands and laughed ear to ear when he saw this film. The filmmaker is actively avoiding this movie due to the reference.

"I felt that I just would be watching it for some weird ego trip"

In anticipation of the February 27 release date for "Wonka", I talked with the director Paul King. I asked him about everything Wonka but couldn't resist asking about his response to Nicolas Cage's "Paddington 2". King said he hasn't seen it yet, even though he is well aware of the respect that his sequel receives. King stated:

"I've never [seen the movie], as I know that "Paddington" is mentioned, and it makes me feel like I am watching it for some weird ego trip. The movie is something I'd like to watch because I love Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage. It's only because I know it's about "Paddington", which I think is the worst possible thought. "But there you are."

King was urged to see the film, and not just because "Paddington 2' has been praised, but because the movie is a lot of fun for Cage fans. He sounds as if he's considering it. He said, "I'll watch it but it will have to be late at night with the window closed because I would feel embarrassed."

It's a great thing that King was humble enough to not seek out the movie because it shows such kindness to "Paddington 2." If there is a film starring Nicolas Cage or Pedro Pascal in which their characters rave about your movie, you might as well bite the bullet. Pascal and Cage love the movie "Paddington 2" and King will be happy to watch and enjoy it.
